“There isn’t a better way to know what’s going on at the track than to be listening to the action on this great little radio.  I’ve used the RACEceiver SW 1600 for the past couple of years now and have recently started using the "NEW" TruScan and found it to be the perfect scanner for me.  It would be an asset for any local short track race fan or team member! “

Latest ASA Late Model Series Press Releases

Wyoming, Michigan Driver, Brian Campbell survives a wild Hawkeye 100 Presented by Coors Light and Cassill Motors to win his Third ASALMS North Feature of the season.
By ASA Late Model Series

Lexington, Michigan (09/04/2007): A wild and crazy Hawkeye 100 Presented by Coors Light and Cassill Motors is now in the record books. The Hawkeye Downs (IA) Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa served as hosts for the Seventh Race of the 2007 Season and at the end of the night, the great crowd on hand saw a little bit of everything that could possibly happen in a race, happen and then some.

When all was said and done, Wyoming, Michigan driver, Brian Campbell survived an ASALMS Northern Division record, 15 cautions to win his Third ASALMS North Feature of the 2007 season after taking the lead from multi-time Hawkeye Downs Speedway Late Model Track Champion, Brad Osborn on Lap 63 and then held off challenges from ASALMS Challenge Division Points Leader, Travis Dassow and new ASALMS Northern Division Points Leader, Charlie Menard to score the win.

Campbell in his Tech Financial Services/Boyne Machine/Ford Fusion won his second consecutive Feature and third North victory of the year. The 28-year-old won the last North race held, the Wolverine 100 at the Dixie (MI) Motor Speedway on August 17, 2007 as well as the 2007 ASALMS North Season Opener at the O'Reilly (IN) Raceway Park at Indianapolis on April 28, 2007 when he came from 27th to earn that win!

Jason Tyler and Reigning ASALMS Northern Division Rookie of the Year, Derek Neville led a strong 29-car field to the green flag to begin the century grind in the Hawkeye State and as the green flew, a car in the middle of the pack checked up causing several cars to slow and several more drove into each other on the start causing damage to several machines.

Amongst the drivers suffering damage in the melee was ASALMS Northern Division Points Leader coming into the Labor Day Holiday Weekend, Peter Cozzolino, who broke a Right Front Tie Rod and spent several laps in the pits. Trent Snyder suffered cosmetic damage as well while others received minimal damage.
<!--more-->
On the restart, Neville beat out Tyler to the first corner to take the early lead while the rest of the field tried to settle down. Two more cautions flew on Lap Five and 18 for spins as the entire field was restless while wanting to get some laps in the record books. Multi-time Hawkeye Downs Speedway Late Model Track Champion, Brad Osborn made his charge from his Sixth starting spot and soon found himself on Neville's back bumper.

Finally on Lap 21, Osborn made the pass for the lead to the roar of the hometown crowd. He also brought Two-Time ASALMS North Feature Winner, Brian Campbell and ASALMS Challenge Division Points Leader, Travis Dassow with him and the trio pulled away from the rest of the pack.

From Lap 24 until just prior to the halfway point, a mind boggling Eight cautions flew in just a 25-lap span up to Lap 49. With fuel consumption already becoming a concern, ASALMS Officials elected to begin counting cautions up to Lap 90 in an effort to conserve fuel.

During those cautions periods, several top contenders were lost including early race leader, Derek Neville as well as 15-year-old Chad Finley, who broke two of his fingers in a Lap 49 incident that also saw Rookie of the Year Points Leader, Dave Gentile Jr., suddenly slow in front of the field on a restart resulting in a chain reaction incident that involved Four cars total.

All the while, Osborn would maintain the lead with Campbell, Dassow, and now Charlie Menard from 15th, now running in Fourth. Campbell looked high and low trying to dethrone Osborn from the top spot. Finally on Lap 63, Campbell got a good run on the multi-time track champion and took the lead from the hometown favorite.

Dassow tried to follow Campbell through the same hole, but Osborn slammed the door quickly and the two drivers touched, sending Osborn around for the 12th cautions of the night. ASALMS Officials rules Osborn to be the cause of the cautions, sending him to the rear of the field. At the drop of the green, Osborn and J. Herbst collided on the restart sending both around for yet another caution flag.

As fuel was a concern earlier in the event, two cars ran out of gas in the late stages of the 100-lap marathon as Troy Hintzsche, who was running Fifth, fell victim to gas woes on Lap 85 while just Six laps later, Jason Tyler, who was involved in one of the earlier incidents, had made his way back up to Seventh before losing power due to no fuel! Hintzsche would later return but was laps down.

Campbell was determined with two strong runners in Dassow and Menard behind him as the Wyoming, Michigan driver would make no mistake in holding off the Wisconsin based duo to claim his Third ASALMS Northern Division Feature win of the 2007 Season!

Dassow, who earlier in the evening broke the track record in ARP Bodies/Aluminum Racing Products Qualifying, finished second over new ASALMS Northern Division Points Leader, Menard who started 15th. Local favorite, Kyle Hinrichs finished a career high Fourth while Rookie of the Year title contender, Jesse Saunders rounded out the Top Five.

Reigning ASALMS Northern Division Champion, 18-year-old Jesse Smith came home sixth while J. Herbst from 26th earned the Hard-Charger of the Race Award even after being involved in an earlier incident. Danny Ouderkirk came from 24th to finish a career high Eighth while Nick Neville and Josh Wallace completed the Top 10.

Earlier in the afternoon in ARP Bodies/Aluminum Racing Products Qualifying, ASALMS Challenge Division Points Leader, Travis Dassow made his third Northern Division appearance count by winning his second ARP Bodies Fast Qualifier Award of the season and breaking the track record in the process!

The 20-year-old from West Bend, Wisconsin drove his NAPA Auto Parts/Who's Your Daddy Energy Drink/Ford Fusion around the Cedar Rapids, Iowa speed plant at an 18.524 which measures out to a fast 97.171 MPH. The ASALMS track record was an 18.562 which was set by Cedar Rapids veteran, Dudley Fleck one year ago to the day.

Later in the evening, 16-year-old Keaton Feller from Altus, Oklahoma won the 25-lap GM Performance Parts Shootout over 15-year-old Chad Finley, 17-year-old Phil Gill, Shane Morrissey, and Mike Tetzlaff the Top Five. The Top Three transferred into the 100-lap Feature.

Dange Hanniford

Born to race; it’s the only thing he can remember wanting to do. He was born and raised only minutes from “The Track Too Tough Too Tame”, so it would have been hard to not want to race. He’s been around racing his entire life, traveling to local race tracks with his family since he was six-weeks old.

Dange has an excellent working knowledge of a racecar, along with the driving ability to compete with the best. It’s not often that you find that in a driver these days. Dange has taken the old-school approach to racing, working his way from the bottom to the top, learning not only how to drive, but also how to build and maintain his cars along the way.

2006 He received an offer to run a limited schedule in the Hooters Pro Cup series for a southern division team. After qualifying for the Championship, Dange signed on to run for the Hooter Pro Cup Championship with NASCAR Busch team, Mac Hill Motorsports in the #65s Chevy Monte Carlo SS and finish 2 points short of the Rookie of the Year.

In 2007, Hanniford will run the full schedule in the Southern Hooters Pro Cup division and compete in his first NASCAR Busch series race at Richmond on May 4, 2007.

Earnhardt’s Team Picks Up Pit Crew Challenge Win at California

No. 8 crew earns second Checkers®/Rally’s® Double Drive-Thru Challenge victory

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s over-the-wall crew picked up its second Checkers®/Rally’s® Double Drive-Thru Challenge win of the season during Sunday night’s Nextel Cup event at California Speedway.

On its way to a fifth-place finish, the team spent 302.234 seconds on pit road.

"I am so proud of my guys – they worked so hard,” said Earnhardt. “I am proud of them for sticking it out and giving us a good run. I would like to think they could run just as good without me, I would never be able to run this good without them.”

“They've become so fast and consistent on pit lane that they get upset or argue when they have a 13-second stop,” added Earnhardt. “That's how good they have become. They have been 'on' all season, and it's been a confidence-boost for me knowing they're going to give me a great stop almost every time."

Earnhardt’s No.. 8 team, out of the Dale Earnhardt Inc. stable, will be presented with an $11,000 check by Checkers/Rally’s for winning the weekly competition. An additional $111,150 prize will be presented to the pit crew with the most wins at the completion of the 36-race Nextel Cup schedule.

The No. 8 crew includes: Brian “Hootie” Chase (jackman), Shawn Ward (front-tire carrier), D..J. Copp (front-tire changer), Erik Wakeland (rear-tire carrier), Greg Burkhart (rear-tire changer), Jeff Clark (gasman), Craig Lund (catch can) and Jay Guarneri  (windshield). The team’s crew chief is Tony Eury Jr. and the pit crew coordinator is Walt Smith.

Mark Martin’s No. 01 crew leads the season-long Checkers/Rally’s Double Drive-Thru Challenge standings with four wins.

To win, teams are required to finish on the lead lap while spending the least amount of time on pit road. Checkers/Rally’s is in its third season as title sponsor for the Pit Crew Challenge.

USAR HOOTERS PRO CUP CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES ROUND 1.

BAYNE SUFFERS FROM ENGINE FAILURE AT MANSFIELD AFTER RUNNING INSIDE TOP 5!!

16 year old, Knoxville, TN native Trevor Bayne came into the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Championship Series as a second seed in series points out of a total of sixty teams that were eligible for competition. After racking up two consecutive top 3 finishes to end the Aaron’s Southern Division, Trevor and his #29 Kichler Lighting Team looked to maintain their recent upswing as they headed to Mansfield Motorsports Park for round 1 of a five race shootout with the best short track drivers in the country. Trevor looked as if he was headed for a yet another stellar night as he placed inside the top five during the early going of the Sears Auto Centers 250. After a scheduled four tire stop at lap 42 that hosted much of the leaders, Trevor began working his way back through the field until he drove his #29 Kichler Lighting Chevrolet behind the wall as a bluish smoke heavily showed existing the exhaust giving every indication that Trevor’s night was over. Trevor finished a very disappointing 34th place out of the 36 car starting field.

Sears Auto Centers 250 Key Moments:

Trevor Bayne qualified his #29 Kichler Lighting Chevrolet in the 7th position out of the 46 cars that were in attendance for the Sears Auto Centers 250 Saturday night.

During the start of the Sears Auto Centers 250, Trevor Bayne marched his way inside the top 5 in front of a packed house at Mansfield. With 50 plus Kichler Lighting employees on hand to experience their first event, Trevor proved early that their company sponsored Chevrolet would be an early contender.

Just after completing 100 laps in the Sears Auto Centers 250, a blue smoke started to appear out of the exhaust pipes of the #29 Kichler Lighting Chevrolet. “Luckily there was a caution flag right when the motor started to go and we were able to discuss staying out. There was no sense in completely blowing it up when it was already down a cylinder was getting worse,” said Trevor. “We really don’t know what went wrong but it had to be something in the bottom end of the motor. Keith (Dorton) at Automotive Specialist has built us some great motors over the last two seasons and I understand that this kinda stuff happens in this sport. This is the first engine failure we have had in the two years we have run this series so you can’t get upset. We just have to stay focused and come back next week at Iowa. That’s all we can do, we have a great team and a great engine builder and as long as we continue to bring fast cars to the track we can still win this thing.”
