Dange Hanniford

Born to race; it’s the only thing he can remember wanting to do. He was born and raised only minutes from “The Track Too Tough Too Tame”, so it would have been hard to not want to race. He’s been around racing his entire life, traveling to local race tracks with his family since he was six-weeks old.

Dange has an excellent working knowledge of a racecar, along with the driving ability to compete with the best. It’s not often that you find that in a driver these days. Dange has taken the old-school approach to racing, working his way from the bottom to the top, learning not only how to drive, but also how to build and maintain his cars along the way.

2006 He received an offer to run a limited schedule in the Hooters Pro Cup series for a southern division team. After qualifying for the Championship, Dange signed on to run for the Hooter Pro Cup Championship with NASCAR Busch team, Mac Hill Motorsports in the #65s Chevy Monte Carlo SS and finish 2 points short of the Rookie of the Year.

In 2007, Hanniford will run the full schedule in the Southern Hooters Pro Cup division and compete in his first NASCAR Busch series race at Richmond on May 4, 2007.

SGMP Showdown

Coming of an impressive win at Myrtle Beach Speedway, 16 year old Dale Earnhardt Inc. driver Trevor Bayne has made a serious push for the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Championship. Trevor Bayne and the #29 STRUTMASTERS.COM team look to continue their recent string of consistent finishes, a string that has launched them to second in the Championship standings just 15 points behind leader Bobby Gill.

Quotes from Trevor Bayne / Driver #29 STRUTMASTERS.COM Chevrolet

On capturing his second win at “The Beach”: Myrtle Beach is somewhere we’ve always been fast, but now we finally have the win to show for it. This is exactly what we needed to do to be back in contention for the championship. The team is so fired up right now.”

On his mindset heading into the final two Championship races: “The cars have been outstanding every since Keith came on board with us. I think we have the most momentum of any team right now. We just have to keep it going and come out of these next two races with top fives. If we can do that, I really believe we have a good shot at the championship. We just have to be cautious and not take as many chances now.”

Championship Breakdown

#2 Trevor Bayne (STRUTMASTERS.COM / DEI Chevrolet)

Finish at Mansfield: 34th

Finish at Iowa: 2nd

Finish at Myrtle Beach: 1st

Championship series Points: 561

Points behind 1st: 15

Points ahead of 3rd: 39

Point positions gained after Myrtle Beach: +2

Championship Series Avg. Finish: 12.3

Laps Led: 142 out of 725 (19.6%)

Myrtle Beach Review
Bayne is getting hot at the right time. His win at Myrtle Beach put him in the middle of a point race with two of the best short-track drivers to ever strap on a helmet, Bobby Gill and Mike Garvey. If you throw away his DNF at Mansfield, the 16-year-old driver would be leading the points right now. That’s pretty special, no matter how old you are.

South Georgia Preview
Bayne probably needs to take the point lead at SGMP. Why? Well, Gill owns Lakeland. Knowing that, expect Bayne to try and get to the front early this weekend. He has one top-10 finish in three starts, but he’s been fast in the other starts. He should be top-five or better this time around.

The $50,000 To Win FASTRAK “Grand Nationals” adds $6000 in tow money!

The FASTRAK Racing Series just never seems to stop giving back to the teams as now $6000 in tow money is guaranteed in addition to the purse each night and $250,000 in point fund money.

Over $250,000.00 is up for grabs in October. Know as the “richest point fund for grass roots racing’ in the country, the popularity of the FASTRAK Late Model Series still continues to grow every day.

Expecting over 70 dirt late models each day will surely make this one of the largest events in the nation. The side by side restarts running under the choose format makes it one of the more competitive events all year long and is certainly a fan favorite. Several fans and drivers were quoted as saying it was the single best race they had ever seen. That you didn’t know who was going to win it until the checkered flag fell.

The tow money will be divided equally among all the teams that did not make the show in nights 2 and 3 of the Grand Nationals. “This will help the teams that made the trip but for whatever reason didn’t make the shows” stated FASTRAK Founder Stan Lester. “I think all of our teams see that we are doing our best to help everyone and that every team is important. They are all FASTRAK teams and that means it’s our responsibility to make sure they too, are taken care of”. *Teams must compete in all three Grand National races to be eligible for the tow money,

Nights 2 And 3 will be the challenge of the entire year with teams from 23 states expected to make the trip. Each Region will hold its on NIGHT 1 this year differing from the 2006 Grand Nationals. Then two to three weeks later everyone from across the country comes together for the ending races of the 2007 season.

The team with the most points at the end of the three races earns the $50,000 to win first place prize paying a possible fifty positions. 2006 Grand National Champion Steve “Hot Rod” LaMance took home the prize which was the largest in his over thirty years of racing. LaMance was a many time Super Late Model Champion but decided from a standpoint of economics, FASTRAK was definitely the way to go in the future.

“Think about it” said LaMance. “I took a 1999 model car, a open trailer, stayed at my home track all year with the exception of a few touring races I went too, had a pick up truck and open trailer, bought only 10 tires all year long and won $50,000 plus another $32,000 in contingencies. I mean man, this was with a $5000 engine. How much better does it get than that”?

LaMance was definitely the “story book” ending to a remarkable year of the FASTRAK Late Model Series. LaMance was helped by many manufacturers throughout the 2007 season because of his accomplishments with the series in 2006. “I have never had that much factory support from sponsors” said LaMance. “A lot of people have helped me during my racing career but FASTRAK has become so popular the amount of interest was really surprising”.

Time will only tell who the 2007 FASTRAK Grand National Champion will be. The three race shoot out format has become one of the most popular races in the entire country. Fans are sure to be pleased as it is as much a show as it is racing.

“Expect to see some different things this year” said Lester. Our teams are second to none but without our fans we just don’t exist. The fans are incredibly important and we will give them one of the best shows they have ever seen. I know some people may not have heard of some of these drivers but come on and watch them. Give them a real opportunity to show the fans what they can do. Not all of them have the funds to go super racing but that does not mean they aren’t good drivers.

Our drivers are not good, but great. You take EQUAL engines, EQUAL tires and great drivers and you are guaranteed to see some incredible racing. Add the autograph sessions, fireworks, side by side restarts and it is a recipe for success. The teams are racing for a piece of the $250,000 but the fans will get a lot more than their moneys worth. This is a three day shoot out you won’t forget for a long, long time.

Night 1: Oct 5th-6th (Southern and Mid East Regions) Green Valley Speedway, Glenco AL. www.greenvalleyspeedway.com

Night 2: Oct 17th-18th (The entire Nation) Mountain Raceway Park, Maryville TN   www.mountainraceway.net

Night 3: Oct 19th-20th (The entire Nation) Volunteer Speedway, Bulls Gap TN www.volunteerspeedway.com

Come see the richest “grass roots championship” in the entire USA. Side by side re-starts, running under the choose format and the best points driver after 3 days receives $50,000 in cash.

Partners of the FASTRAK Racing Series Include: Goodyear Racing, GM Performance Parts, Sunoco Race Fuels, Maypole Chevrolet, Duralite Wheels, PPM Racing Products, Heintz Performance, MK-Direct, Braswell Carburetion, Mastersbilt Racing Chassis, TNT Racing Chassis, Rocket Racing Chassis, Modern Chevrolet, Schoenfeld Headers.

*THE FASTRAK DIRT LATE MODEL SERIES is based on the GM crate engine program using both the 602 and 604 engine types. All teams utilize Goodyear Racing Tires as the “spec tire” allowing teams tremendous savings in both engine and tire expense. The National Championship of the FASTRAK RACING SEIRES is one of the largest in the United States totaling over $350,000.00 for the 2007 season.

Earles’ Martinsville Speedway Dream Gains Historic Status

MARTINSVILLE, VA (October 17, 2007) – When H. Clay Earles first viewed the land he had purchased for a race track in 1947, he was thinking about turning a hobby into livelihood.

He built a monument to the sport and a legacy that will live forever. And it is for that history and heritage that Martinsville Speedway was honored by the Department of Historic Resources Wednesday with a Virginia Historic Marker, kicking of the SUBWAY 500 week at the track.

“This is such an honor for my family and for Martinsville Speedway,” said Speedway President Clay Campbell, Earles’ grandson. “My grandfather was so proud of Martinsville Speedway and this honor today would be so special to him. And I think it’s a fitting way to close out our 60th anniversary.”

The state historical highway marker program commemorates facts, persons, events and places prominently identified with the history of the nation, state or region. The wording for each marker must be reviewed and edited by the manager of the marker program and the staff of the Department of Historic Resources. The location has to be approved by the Board of Historic Resources.

“What Bill Monroe is to bluegrass music, Martinsville Speedway is to NASCAR. Both came along at about the same time in the late 1940s and made home-grown forms of entertainment wildly popular throughout the world,” said Kathleen S. Kilpatrick, director of the Department of Historic Resources.

“Virginia’s NASCAR roots arose out of the state’s southwestern communities and Blue Ridge Mountain hollows. It’s an important recreational heritage in Virginia and we are delighted to recognize that legacy through the new historical marker for Martinsville Speedway.”

There are more than 2,000 historic road markers throughout the Commonwealth, but this is the first to honor a speedway.

Following is the text as it appears on the historic marker: “H. Clay Earles (1913-1999) opened Martinsville Speedway in 1947 with seating for 750. The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) first raced here in 1948. Martinsville Speedway was one of eight tracks to host the inaugural 1949 season of NASCAR’s Strictly Stock division, later called Winston Cup and then NEXTEL Cup racing. It is the only original NASCAR track still hosting the highest division as of 2007. It features a short .526-mile track and seats more than 68,000.”

SUBWAY 500 week action doesn’t pick up at Martinsville Speedway until Thursday when the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series trucks begin rolling through inspection at 2 p.m. The NEXTEL Cup haulers will enter the infield at 5:30 on Thursday.

There will be a full day of action on Friday with the NEXTEL Cup practice scheduled at noon for 90 minutes. NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice for the Kroger 200 is scheduled for 11 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. on Friday.

NASCAR NEXTEL Cup qualifying will begin at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.

There will be a pair of NEXTEL Cup practice sessions on Saturday, one at 10 a.m. and the other at 12:50 p.m.

Qualifying for the Kroger 200 is at 11:10 a.m. Saturday with the race set to take the green flag at 3 p.m.
