Enfinger
Makes Iowa Speedway Debut
July 10, 2010, 6
hours ago | Don Radebaugh
Two
weeks prior to the race among the meadows, Grant Enfinger and the GER team
tested at Iowa Speedway. The test run on June 28 was helpful and
Enfinger looks forward to making his career-debut at Iowa on Saturday. Enfinger,
driver of the No. 09 BeasleyAllen.com/Roush-Yates Performance Products Ford
Fusion, reflected positively on the test session. “Our
test run went well,” Enfinger said. “I’m glad we were able to put the
car on the track prior to the race. We didn’t get the car as balanced
as we’d like, but we’ve had time to work on it. The team and I feel
good about the times we ran. I feel like I typically run strong in
short tracks. This is the shortest track on our schedule this year, so
I’m looking forward to it.” Enfinger
regarded the race track at Iowa as all-around nice. “The
GER team had a really good first experience at Iowa Speedway,” Enfinger
said. “The track itself is nice. It provides for a lot of side by
side racing. I like its versatility. If the car isn’t handling
well on the bottom, you can go to the middle, and vice versa.” Similar
to the last ARCA Racing Series race in Michigan, a member of the GER team is
a local of the host-state. Crew member, Zach Ralston, grew up racing
go-karts in Newton, Iowa, where Iowa Speedway is located. Ralston met
Enfinger when they each worked for Andy Belmont Racing three years ago.
When Enfinger had the opportunity to race part-time with the ARCA Racing
Series, Ralston volunteered to help. The
23-year-old Iowa local soon became roommates with Enfinger living part-time
over the past year between Iowa and North Carolina. In addition to
being Enfinger’s right hand man throughout the race season, Ralston is
Enfinger’s co-pilot as they travel from race to race in the hauler. All
of Ralston’s work is volunteer, but he does it for the love of
racing. “I
love this sport,” Ralston said. “I’m very proud of Grant and the GER
team. Our placings throughout the season speak for themselves. I
really look forward to what’s in store for the team.” When
asked how he feels about being back in his home state, Ralston said, “Heading
back to Iowa is great.” “I love North Carolina, but it’s always a
breath of fresh air to be back in my home state for a bit,” he
continued. “It’s awesome that I grew up racing karts just up the road
from the speedway. I know I can speak for the rest of the team when I
say I’m looking forward to a great race with our BeasleyAllen.com/Roush-Yates
Performance Products Ford.” The
Prairie Meadows 200 at Iowa Speedway will be televised on SPEED at 9:00 PM ET
on July 10 with additional race coverage including live timing and scoring
and radio broadcast through the ARCA Racing Network at arcaracing.com. Contact:

George's
No. 31 Chevrolet will carry a special paint scheme as the team heads west
this weekend to Newton, Iowa with University of Miami (UM) and The Buoniconti
Fund to Cure Paralysis serving as the primary sponsor. The No. 31 UM -
Buoniconti Fund Chevrolet will feature a University of Miami paint scheme
with the orange, green and white colors and The Buoniconti Fund to Cure
Paralysis on hood. The
sponsorship coincides with George's association with the University's Alumni
Association and The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis. George Jr., a 2006
University of Miami graduate, has set a year-long goal of raising $59,000,
enough to pay one day of the charity's annual operating expenses. This
weekend marks the final of three races in which he will race the UM -
Buoniconti Fund themed design and donate his share of the prize winnings
toward that goal. George,
driver of the No. 31 No. 31 Richard Childress Racing Development Chevrolet
Impala, made his first trip to the 7/8-mile (.875-mile) paved oval, Iowa
Speedway, finishing 19th and maintaining position after starting 19th in the
2009 Prairie Meadow 200. "Iowa
was a challenge for me last year, but I have a lot more confidence going into
this race now," said George reflecting on Iowa Speedway. "It will
be great to have Ty Dillon as my teammate in the ARCA Racing Series, and
working with my Richard Childress Racing team again will be fun. I'm doing
several appearances, so I'm also looking forward to a busy
weekend." Participating
in an autograph session, George will meet fans at Karl Chevrolet on Friday,
July 9, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Karl Chevrolet is one of the premier
Chevy dealers in Des Moines, Iowa, conveniently located right off Interstate
35 in Ankeny. Also, George will meet and greet with the ARCA Racing Series
fans at the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona, Iowa on July 9
from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. local. On Saturday, George will make an appearance
at the Chevy Display, located on the main fan concourse at Iowa Speedway at
2:30 p.m. The
29-year old, George, is currently ninth in the ARCA Racing Series season
point standings, just 300 points behind the point leader. His best
finish of the 2010 campaign came at Talladega where he finished third. The
Prairie Meadows 200 presented by SPEED on Mediacom (200 laps / 175 miles), on
Saturday, July 10th, is televised live on SPEED. The broadcast begins at 9:00
P.M. (ET). Additional race coverage including live timing and scoring and
radio broadcast through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at

New York, N.Y., native began racing in the Skip Barber Racing School regional
series in 2005. In 2007, he ran the Grand-Am KONI series before moving up to
the Grand-Am Rolex series in the GT class. In 2008, Tim George Jr. was named
Rolex Series MESCO "Building for the Future" Rookie-of-the-Year,
while driving for The Racer's Group. He has two GT class podium finishes in
the Rolex 24 at Daytona, finishing third in 2008 and second in 2009. The 29-year
old driver made his transition to stock cars running full-time in 2009 in the
ARCA Racing Series for Eddie Sharp Racing, finishing 11th in the point
standings with one top-5, two top-10 and six top-15 finishes. George Jr. will

Goess Iowa Speedway Preview
July 09, 2010,
12:51:03 PM | Don Radebaugh Race: Prairie Meadows 200 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and
Menards: 9 of 20 Track: Iowa Speedway Date: July 10, 2010 Craig
Goess and the Eddie Sharp Racing No. 81 Greenville Toyota of N.C. Toyota will
take the track in the Prairie Meadows 200 at Iowa Speedway on Saturday, July
10, 2010. Last Race: Michigan: A week
after winning his first ARCA Racing Series race at Pocono Raceway, Goess
continued his momentum, as he claimed his first pole at Michigan
International Speedway. He came out on top of practice early in the day and
then claimed the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell with a lap of 38.490
seconds (187.062 mph). When the green flag dropped on the Racing for Wildlife
200, Goess continued to show speed and led 74 of the 100 laps. In a stroke of
bad luck, the caution flag came out when the No. 81 was on pit road, putting
Goess a lap down and ending the team's good day. Goess, a lap down, but among
the leaders, finished sixth. Goess at Iowa Speedway: Goess
competed last year in his only ARCA Racing Series start at Iowa Speedway.
Starting in the 12th position, Goess battled transmission and
brake problems throughout the race. After struggling all day, Goess brought
the No. 81 to the checkered flag in 12th place. He also competed
at the track in 2008 in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race, where he started
in the 13th position and finished 18th after the sway
bar fell out of the car when the chain broke. In the Points: Goess'
pole and sixth-place finish helped him move up one spot in the ARCA Racing
Series point standings to the fourth position. He is now 60 points behind Mikey Kile in
the third position and 135 points behind points leader Patrick Sheltra. SPEED Broadcast: The
Prairie Meadows 200 will be the sixth of 10 races on the ARCA Racing Series
schedule to be broadcast on SPEED Channel. The live race coverage begins at 8
p.m. CDT (9 p.m. EST). Live streaming audio will be also featured on the ARCA
Racing Network at www.arcaracing.com
with scoring and timing at 8 p.m. CDT. QUOTES Goess on running at Iowa Speedway "I
love this track. The location is unique in that there is nothing else around
it. Iowa Speedway has a great crowd every time we go there, which is one of
the reasons I love racing there. I think Iowa Speedway has some of the best
fans around, and everyone is always so into the race when we are there. This
weekend with the companion race with the NASCAR Truck Series race, I can't
imagine what it is going to be like. I also love racing at night. Running
under the lights is pretty awesome, so I'm thrilled for this
weekend." Goess on strategy for the weekend "We
are running a different car than we did last year, which I hope will have a
better result. I think this weekend we are going to have to be spot on
because I know some of the other ARCA Racing Series drivers have been testing
during our free weeks. I also know there is going to be a large field of cars
and a lot of drivers who don't race with ARCA every week. The main thing is
to go out there and not beat ourselves. We are going to make improvements on
the car, continue good communication and build on that to make the No. 81
Toyota of N.C. even better.” Goess' ARCA Racing Series Iowa Speedway History

July 10, 2010 at 8 p.m. CDT (9 p.m. EST). Last ARCA Race: Toledo: Fowler
made his ARCA Racing Series debut on May 23, 2010 in the Menards 200 at
Toledo Speedway. After qualifying 13th, Fowler was ready to take
on his first ARCA Racing Series race in front of a packed crowd. The green
flag dropped, and Fowler showed consistency as he worked his way toward the
front. Bad luck seemed to follow the No. 6 as he suffered damage in one
incident, then the battery disconnected during a red-flag. Although two laps
down, Fowler pushed through the field to finish 15th in his ARCA
Racing Series debut. Supporting the Troops:
This weekend, the Alabama Air National Guard will be featured on the No. 6
ESR Toyota. The car will be in support of American troops abroad and Fowler's
cousin, Ray Fowler, who just returned from Iraq, his third tour
overseas. Meet Fowler in Iowa: Fowler
will join fellow ARCA Racing Series drivers at the Prairie Meadows Racetrack

with scoring and timing at 8 p.m. CDT. Fowler's Racing History: Fowler
grew up racing Bandolero and Legends Cars in Georgia. Success came to Fowler
at a young age, as he won feature events and titles from the beginning. In
2006, the young driver competed for five championships in several Legends Car
series throughout the Southeast. He won three championships and finished
runner-up twice. In 2007, Fowler competed in Georgia Asphalt Series
Late Models, posting 14 top-10s in 17 starts. He then competed in the ASA
Southeast Asphalt Tour in 2008 and scored a career-best second-place finish
at Lanier National Speedway. Fowler won the pole at Lanier in 2009 at the
Georgia Asphalt Series Speedfest. QUOTES Fowler on racing at Iowa Speedway "In
my first race in the ARCA Racing Series at Toledo Speedway, I learned a lot.
Being my first race, I received great experience in the car, and I'm thrilled
to be back at the track. I am confident going into Iowa, and I know we are
going to have a good run. We've had some bad luck with things like mechanical
problems, so I am looking forward to turning around the luck for the better.
I am thankful to Eddie Sharp for allowing me this opportunity to run with the
team again at Iowa. Crew chief Kevin Caldwell has been great to work with,
and I look forward to this weekend with him on top of the pit box
again." Race length: 200

Brevak Iowa Speedway Preview

Track:
Iowa Speedway (0.88-mile) Location:
Newton, IA Notes: Brent Brevak and the No. 3 Dodge Team Michigan Recap:
Brent Brevak started his second event of the 2010 season at the ARCA race
weekend at the Michigan International Speedway on June 11. Brevak had
high hopes going into his first experience at the 2-mile oval. After
practicing in the mid 20’s Brevak stepped up his qualifying run by almost a
full second and landed a solid 20th place starting position. After
managing a high of 15th during the race, Brevak was forced to pit with engine
troubles. While diagnosing the motor issue, crew chief Joe Slonkosky also
spotted a broken shock bolt, both problems forced the No. 3 Dodge to spend
multiple laps in the pits for repair. Brevak was able to return to
competition, which allowed the rookie driver to log more laps and finish the
Racing for Wildlife 200 in the 29th-position. Iowa History: Brevak
will be making his first start at the Iowa Speedway this weekend.
Brevak does have experience at another Iowa track competing at the well known
short-track Hawkeye Downs. While participating in the ASA North Series
Brevak had a solid run going when an overheated engine caused an early
exit. Red’s Auto Returns:
Red’s Auto located in Ironwood, MI is returning as an associate sponsor in
the ARCA Series after teaming with Brevak Racing in the ASA North Series in
2009. Red’s Auto was founded in 1973 by Red D'Antonio. Red's is proud

looking forward to getting back in the No. 3 Dodge for the third time this
season. It will feel good to return to the ARCA Series for back-to-back
events. It is my first time at Iowa Speedway but the majority of my
experience has been on short-tracks that are similar so I am up for the
challenge.” – Brent Brevak, Driver “I
am grateful to Bob D’Antonio and Red’s Auto for coming on board for our ARCA
Iowa event this weekend. Red’s Auto was a big help to me in my ASA
program. It would be fitting to be able to put our Dodge No. 3 at the
top of the charts with Red’s Auto on board.” –Brent Brevak, Driver “I

During
the time off, Marks has stayed busy with an entrepreneurial project he has
taken on with his business partner and close friend, NASCAR driver Michael
McDowell. The duo recently announced their plans to begin building the
Mooresville Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina. Fueled by their love of
go karting, Mooresville Motorplex will be a world class karting track and
facility, complete with kart and parts sales, training clinics, on-site
storage garages, and plans to host international karting events. The
projected opening date is set for Spring 2011, with ground breaking to begin
within the next six weeks. Justin
will make his 50th career ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards
start at Iowa this weekend. Thus far in his career he's collected one
win, nine top-five and 19 top-10 finishes, along with two poles in the
series. This season he has also logged four top-five finishes in
just eight starts. Saturday night’s Prairie Meadows 200 will be Justin’s
third start at Iowa Speedway with his best finish at the .875-mile oval
coming in 2006. Driving the RAB Racing No. 65, he marched forward from the
30th starting spot to finish third. Win-Tron Racing has previously enjoyed success
at Iowa as well, winning the pole and finishing third in 2007 with driver
Michael Annett at the controls. To
prepare for this weekend’s action, the team traveled to Iowa last week for a
test session in their No. 32 Construct Corps Toyota Camry. Pleased with the
results of that test, driver and team are looking forward to the 175-mile
main event, which is scheduled to air live on SPEED at 9 pm EST. Qualifying
will take place at 6 pm EST, with live timing and scoring beginning earlier
in the day for the first practice session at 11 am EST on ARCARacing.com.
Justin Marks on Iowa Speedway I've
been to Iowa a couple of times in ARCA before and had my first top-five
finish there at the end of the 2006 season. It’s an awesome facility
and a track that I really like. It’s sort of a home track for me since
my family is from Missouri and Illinois, so we definitely want to run good
there. We’ve had a lot of time off in between Iowa and Michigan,
and we worked really hard to tune on the cars just a little bit to give us a
little more of an edge. I'm pretty confident after the test that we'll
have a great piece for this weekend. Co-Owner Nate Thiesse on Iowa Speedway We've
had some success at Iowa Speedway in the past but we've been bitten there
recently, so we're hoping to go back there this weekend and put our record
back on track. Overall, we were pleased with the outcome of the test and feel
that it will be beneficial for this weekend. When
everything has gone his way, Justin has proven he is no slouch at Iowa
Speedway. I distinctly remember Justin’s performance at Iowa in 2007. He
started deep in the field but impressed everyone as he was able to slice and
dice his way through the field and found himself in the hunt for the win
before settling for a strong top-five position. It just shows that no matter
where we start, Justin will know how to maneuver his way around the track. Media

Wins in 8 Races for Venturini Motorsports; Looking for 4th at Iowa
July 07, 2010,
12:05:27 PM | Don Radebaugh
Consecutive
wins aren’t unfamiliar to Venturini Motorsports as Steve Arpin won Salem
Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway back-to-back in April. The team looks to do
this once again with Mikey Kile. Coming
off of his first ARCA victory at Michigan International Speedway, Kile looks
for the winner’s circle at Iowa Speedway. While this will be Kile’s first
start in the ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards at Iowa
Speedway, it will not be his first laps around the track. Mikey Kile ran in
the Hooter’s Pro Cup Series at Iowa Speedway in September 2008. “I
am really looking forward to racing at Iowa Speedway. I raced at Iowa in 2008
in the Hooters Pro Cup Series and loved the track and the side-by-side racing
it brings. To me, Iowa is a short track with a speedway feel - you have to
drive it like a speedway,” said Kile. “I feel like having raced here before
will help out quite a bit even though it is a different car. Coming back here
in an ARCA car is going to be awesome. The cars have so much more horsepower.
I'm just really anxious to get to the track after winning at Michigan and
having almost away from the track.” Steve
Arpin will be dusting off the dirt from his home track appearance at Deer
Creek Speedway in Minnesota just three days prior to the Prairie Meadows 200
to pilot the no. 55 Mike’s Hard Lemonade Toyota. Steve Arpin will be racing
in the Napa Auto Parts Gopher State 50 in the USRA Modified division on
Wednesday July 7th at Deer Creek Speedway. Arpin will be behind the wheel of
the no. 55 Mike’s Hard Lemonade/Mike Sorenson prepared modified. He
will then travel to Iowa for driver appearances. Arpin and the no. 55 Mike’s
Hard Lemonade Toyota will be at Fareway Stores in Ankey, IA from 2:00-5:00pm
on Thursday. But between dirt races and driver appearances, Arpin really
looks forward to hoping back in the ARCA car at Iowa. “Iowa
Speedway is definitely the track I look forward to the most on the entire
schedule. It is the closest track to my hometown that we race at,” said
Arpin. “I grew up racing dirt cars in Canada, all through Minnesota, and
Northern Iowa. There are so many fans, family and friends around that area
that come out to the Iowa race to support me. I’m looking forward to being
able to enjoy this weekend with lots of the people that have been a part of
helping me get to where I am at today. “Along
with all of our fans from Canada and the Minnesota area, we are going to have
a lot of retailers, distributors, and customers of Mike’s Hard Lemonade there
with us this weekend. It is going to be a lot of fun getting all these people
at the track and letting them be a part of our race program and just enjoying
the weekend with them. Whenever there is Mike’s Hard Lemonade around, it’s
usually a good time! And when you have a lot of Mike’s and all the people
that make the company so successful, it is bound to be a real good time!” The
odds of finding the winner’s circle at Iowa Speedway are very high for
Venturini Motorsports, as the team has won three out of the eight races thus
far in the 2010 season. But which Venturini Motorsports driver will take the
checkered flag first? Make sure to catch the Prairie Meadows 200 live on
SPEED. The green flag will drop at 8:00PM CT on Saturday July 10th at Iowa
Speedway for 175 miles of racing. Venturini

Pierre Bourque Steering for Iowa Speedway
July 07, 2010,
11:01:02 AM | Don Radebaugh
Bourque
will jump behind the wheel of the ESR Toyota Camry for the reigning series
champion owners Eddie Sharp Racing this Saturday July 10th in the Prairie
Meadow 200 at Iowa Speedway. This
is not the first visit to Iowa Speedway to participate in the ARCA
Series for the talented driver. In 2008 Pierre Bourque not only
participated in the event but put on quite a driving exhibition. Bourque
was relegated to the back of the field due a rain-out of qualifying. He
would start the feature event from last place, 41st on the grid and put on a
memorable display. “We passed 25 cars during the race,” said Bourque. “The
car was great to drive and coming home 16th was a terrific result." In
the fall of last year Bourque participated in the Camping World Truck series
event for Andy Hillenburg at Iowa Speedway. “We were doing well but
unfortunately had a mechanical issue that ended our day early or we had a
good run going.” The
return to ARCA Racing and to Iowa Speedway is a highly-anticipated one for
Bourque. “I’m really looking forward to seeing all my friends in the
ARCA series again. And Iowa race fans are absolutely
fantastic; their support is truly inspiring. Iowa
Speedway is also a venue where Bourque really enjoys his time on the
track. “I just love this place. “I really enjoy the track layout
with its impressive banking in the corners. It makes for great racing
and I can’t wait to get going this weekend,” he added. This
Saturday’s schedule of events at Iowa Speedway begins with practice at 10AM
local time followed by qualifying at 5:15PM and the green flag waves on the
200 lap feature race at 8PM. Race fans can watch the Prairie Meadow 200

Motorsports Iowa Pre-Race Report
July 07, 2010,
11:01:02 AM | Don Radebaugh Dakoda Armstrong When
the ARCA Racing Series returns to the Iowa Speedway for the Prairie Meadows
200 on July 11, Dakoda hopes to build on his 2009 finish. He finished 6th
in his first race with the Cunningham Motorsports team, after posting a 5th
place start. Armstrong has finished in the top-14 spots in all
races this season, except the season opener in Daytona. In addition to
4 top-10s, Armstrong and the #22 Penske Driver Development Dodge team won the
Talladega ARCA 250 in April, after starting on the pole. With
the addition of the Ferrellgas sponsorship, Armstrong is hoping to better his
finishes. He commented, “Iowa was my first race with Cunningham
Motorsports last year, when I finished 6th. We are looking
for more this year.” The
#22 team will head to Newton, Iowa, Friday after testing at Mansfield
Motorsports Park on Wednesday in preparation for the Tim Richmond Memorial
200 on July 17. Tom Hessert After
disappointing finishes in the last two outings at Pocono and Michigan, Tom
Hessert looks to rebound when he and the #77 Cherry Hill Classic
Cars/Cunningham Motorsports Dodge arrive in Newton, Iowa , for the Prairie
Meadows 200. Hessert’s best ARCA Racing Series finish at Iowa came in
2008, when he finished 11th. “I’ve had success at Iowa
Speedway. I haven’t had great finishes in the ARCA cars here, but have
always had speed. With my Midget and Sprint car experience there, I
have lots of laps on the track…we should be a contender at Iowa,” said
Hessert. Hessert
has 3 top-5 finishes and 4 top-10 finishes in the first 8 races of the 2010
season, with a season and career best third at Toledo in May. After
testing at the .5 mile Mansfield Motorsports Park Tom and the #77 team will
head to Iowa to take on the .875 mile Iowa Speedway Saturday. Prairie

About 50 fans came out in hopes that an outpouring of affection would sway Wade as he decides if he will leave Miami to play for Chicago or another NBA team. The problem was the basketball star arrived at a different terminal, and, having no idea of the airport surprise, already come and gone. A perfect tribute for the 3July 03, 2010, 12:21:36 PM | Carolyn Brewster Well, I’m guessing Junior Nation did very little sleeping last night. I cannot begin to imagine the pressure Dale Earnhardt Jr. felt as he climbed into the car Friday evening. To do that willingly is testament to his love for his late father and his commitment to the fans. None of that was lost as crowds of people filled the grandstands holding three fingers up in tribute. What? Dale Earnhardt Jr. was in my town?June 28, 2010, 12:07:00 PM | Carolyn Brewster I was drinking coffee at my favorite donut shop when I happened to peruse a local newspaper left on the table. Right there on the front page was this headline, “Earnhardt Jr. to drive Realtree car. Bobby Labonte deserves another chance with competitive teamJune 23, 2010, 12:17:10 PM | Jeff Owens Kudos to Robby Gordon for giving Bobby Labonte a shot in his car this weekend at New Hampshire. Labonte deserves another chance to prove he can still be competitive at the Sprint Cup level. Tell us how you really feel, FrankieJune 21, 2010, 3:32:47 PM | Carolyn Brewster Watching the telecast of Sonoma, I was little thrown off by an interview around lap 67 with Frank Stoddard. The crew chief to the No. 26 car was asked about his driver, Boris Said, complaining about Stoddard's not being clear enough with instructions on when to pit. Stoddard responded with a smile, a head shake, and a sharp retort that the only way Boris would understand would be if Stoddard sat in the car and turned the wheel himself. Blow this track up? No wayJune 20, 2010, 11:05:13 AM | Jeff Owens SONOMA, Calif. – Like everyone else, I used to hate races at Infineon Raceway. My attitude was the same as the drivers. Blow it up. NASCAR – and ignorance – have migrated WestJune 17, 2010, 12:55:19 PM | Jeff Owens I’m still amazed as I travel around the country at how ignorant “serious” sports fans are about NASCAR. NASCAR gifts abound for Father's DayJune 16, 2010, 2:12:18 PM | Carolyn Brewster I am the worst about sending cards. In an effort to improve, I perused the greeting cards at a local superstore determined not to miss Father’s Day this Sunday. Here's hoping the NASCAR soap opera continuesJune 12, 2010, 12:41:41 PM | Carolyn Brewster What am I expecting from Michigan this week? I’m hoping for the next episode of what has become a soap opera season. Casey Mears has big shoes to fill at Michigan; other odd streaks at MISJune 09, 2010, 2:37:58 PM | Kenny Bruce OK, so how many of you knew that Brian Vickers won the last three Cup poles at Michigan International Speedway? No? Me neither. With Vickers still on the mend, it’ll be up to Casey Mears to put the Red Bull Racing Toyota up front. Mears finished sixth there last August (driving for Richard Childress Racing), by the way. Oh, brother: Hermie and Elliot sound alikeJune 08, 2010, 1:30:13 PM | Bob Pockrass I love listening to John Boy and Billy on “The Big Show” morning radio program. Hermie Sadler was recently on for his usual NASCAR segment, which I always look forward to and enjoy. Pocono races among sporting events that must be shortenedJune 07, 2010, 4:41:03 PM | Jeff Owens There are some things in sports that you like to be long. Like home runs, field goals and NBA centers. But there are a lot of things in sports that are just way too long for the attention span of the average sports fan. Figuring out Pocono Raceway's 'tricky triangle'June 07, 2010, 4:40:16 PM | Carolyn Brewster For as long as I have been watching NASCAR, Pocono Raceway has been referred to as a ‘tri-oval’ shaped track. Having successfully completed kindergarten shape recognition and the more advanced junior high geometry, I don't recall learning the ‘tri-oval’ shape. Random thoughts over 600 milesMay 31, 2010, 3:07:22 PM | Carolyn Brewster Six hundred miles to the checkered flag allows plenty of time for reflection. So I share with you random thoughts of the Coca-Cola 600 by one fan sitting at home in a recliner. Something strange is happening at Joe Gibbs Racing. Time to bring back survivor aspect to all-star raceMay 25, 2010, 10:05:45 AM | Bob Pockrass Considering the first 90 laps of this year’s Sprint All-Star Race were a little less than exciting, maybe it’s time for NASCAR and Sprint to reconsider bringing back the “survivor” aspect of the annual non-points event. Jeff Gordon would like to host ‘Saturday Night Live’ again, and then jump out of a planeMay 14, 2010, 4:09:22 PM | Jeff Owens NASCAR drivers get asked some odd questions sometimes, especially when they are in a free-for-all, question-and-answer session, or meeting with a group of inquiring reporters. Jeff Gordon got a couple of strange ones Friday at Dover International Speedway. Jamie McMurray among those honoring Hall of Fame inducteesMay 10, 2010, 11:48:41 AM | Kenny Bruce DARLINGTON, S.C. – Jamie McMurray, whose Earnhardt Ganassi Chevrolet featured decals on the back of his car honoring NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Bill France Jr. during Saturday night’s Showtime Southern 500, said he never had one of the infamous “sit-down” chats in the hauler with the longtime head of the sanctioning body. There need to be more tracks like RichmondMay 06, 2010, 9:28:23 AM | Jeff Owens RICHMOND, Va. – If you are a sports fan, this is a great time of year. The NBA and NHL playoffs are going on (if you care about either of those sports, and I know most of you don’t), baseball is in full swing and we just watched the Kentucky Derby on TV in the press box at Richmond International Raceway. Brad Keselowski the favorite for Nationwide titleMay 01, 2010, 11:31:44 AM | Bob Pockrass RICHMOND, Va. – Could Brad Keselowski be on his way to his first NASCAR national series title? Nothing tame about Denny Hamlin’s wild charity raceApril 30, 2010, 10:18:58 AM | Bob Pockrass MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Denny Hamlin, as most people saw a few weeks ago when he gutted out the pain in his knee to race at Phoenix, likes to push things to the limit. The same could be said about his Denny Hamlin Foundation race Thursday night at Southside Speedway. Earnhardt legacy is in full effectApril 29, 2010, 3:21:56 PM | Kris Johnson Nothing can stop a Talladega partyApril 26, 2010, 12:58:06 PM | Carolyn Brewster NASCAR taking risk with Talladega doubleheaderApril 25, 2010, 9:15:57 AM | Bob Pockrass TALLADEGA, Ala. – NASCAR won’t be fighting the weather but it will be fighting the sun as it tries to get both the Cup and Nationwide events completed. Misfortune spoiling Montoya's seasonApril 24, 2010, 12:47:36 PM | Kenny Bruce TALLADEGA, Ala. – The speed is there. The cars are capable. The results have yet to reflect that, however. “I think first of all, we’ve got to stop wrecking,” says Juan Pablo Montoya, who has failed to finish two of this year’s eight races. “I haven’t screwed up yet, and you’ve got to count that I’m going to screw up at least twice. Pocono Raceway breaks tradition by selling naming rightsApril 24, 2010, 10:13:49 AM | Bob Pockrass TALLADEGA, Ala. – For more than a decade, it’s been easy to tell which events on the Sprint Cup schedule were at Pocono Raceway – they were the ones without a title sponsor, the Pennsylvania 500 and the Pocono 500. That has now changed, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Ricky Craven knows why Talladega is high on emotionApril 23, 2010, 10:34:26 AM | Kris Johnson It’s time again for the treachery of Talladega. Some of you can’t wait for the race – and we’re guessing you’re in the majority – and others will decry the type of “racing” that will unfold along those dangerous high banks on Sunday. Texas command up in Smoke?April 22, 2010, 2:08:04 PM | Carolyn Brewster It’s the end of the races that have captivated many of us lately. However, at Texas Motor Speedway, Monday’s command to start the engines was memorable to say the least. Strange but true: Redskins coach honored in Cowboys countryApril 17, 2010, 10:53:37 AM | Bob Pockrass Is Canadian driver Steve Arpin the next JR Motorsports star?April 16, 2010, 10:56:50 AM | Bob Pockrass FORT WORTH, Texas – Steve Arpin, fresh off his first career ARCA Series victory at Salem (Ind.) Speedway last week, says he’s looking forward to the challenge of being the next development driver at JR Motorsports. Rick Hendrick making it harder and harder on anti-Hendrick fansApril 14, 2010, 4:07:26 PM | Jeff Owens Rick Hendrick is making it increasingly hard for NASCAR fans to boo his drivers. For years, a large contingent of fans – the anti-Hendrick brigade – has found great joy in pulling against Hendrick Motorsports, particularly drivers Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. Kelly Bires deserved more time at JR MotorsportsApril 13, 2010, 4:32:41 PM | Bob Pockrass JR Motorsports had a quick trigger on drivers before hiring Brad Keselowski. That quick trigger is back in full force now that Kelly Bires has been released after just five races with the No. 88 Nationwide Series team. Are you tired of hearing about Jimmie Johnson? Greg Biffle isApril 08, 2010, 3:59:00 PM | Jeff Owens Jimmie Johnson may be making news in NASCAR, but fellow driver Greg Biffle says enough is enough. Longer races aren’t necessarily better racesApril 07, 2010, 11:22:54 AM | Kenny Bruce The fans that pony up money for tickets to this year’s Subway Fresh Fit 600 may be getting a few more laps for their hard-earned cash, but it’s yet to be determined whether that’s money well spent. Texas publicity stunt went too farApril 01, 2010, 9:16:37 AM | Bob Pockrass In one of two “news releases” Texas Motor Speedway put out on President Eddie Gossage’s “offer” of $100,000 to a Texas disc jokey to change his name to TexasMotorSpeedway.com, Gossage is quoted as saying the following: Yahoo! Chicago provides welcome relief to fantasy ownersFifty percent odds are not very favorable, but this past week at Daytona, that is what fantasy owners faced on the restrictor-plate superspeedway. Once the smoke cleared, at least 22 cars sustained damage in several accidents, including the Big One on Lap 148 that officially wrinkled 19 of the fastest competitors. The incident was triggered when two of the most experienced drivers in the field, Jeff Burton and Kurt Busch battled for a spot in the top five, which meant that nearly the entire pack was in harm's way when spinning cars blocked the track. The only consolation is that most of your competitors' rosters probably suffered the same fate as yours. Big One brings carnage for half the Daytona fieldIt's been said that restrictor-plate racing can be compared to a cattle stampede. ART takes new approach into running a Cup teamAmerica's Racing Team launched Friday at Daytona International Speedway with more questions than answers about its short term future, but team principals hope race fans will soon help to fill in the blanks. Drivers forced to back-ups in crash-filled practicesWith a wider restrictor plate giving more speed and Daytona International Speedway's ancient pavement providing little grip for one last time, no less than nine drivers were upset after a three-car wreck in the first practice and a five-car melee on the backstretch midway through final practice forced seven teams to pull out backup cars. July race will be vastly different than February oneBased on recent history, one would think that Jamie McMurray has got to be a solid candidate to win Saturday's Coke Zero 400 Cup Series race. Daytona may have some problems with track patchThough drivers are fond of the slick, bumpy surface at Daytona International Speedway, the repaving of the 2.5-mile track apparently can't come soon enough.
