McMurray paint scheme feeling the heat

LONG POND, Pa. – Jamie McMurray’s spotter might have a little tougher job this weekend thanks to McMurray’s sponsor, Axe. The deodorant company has created a paint scheme where the hood changes color depending on the heat. It’s an interesting marketing ploy, but will it affect spotter Keith Barnwell? If McMurray gets in a wreck, it wouldn’t be a bad excuse that he lost sight of the car as it changed colors.

Kudos to JTG Daugherty Racing for hiring Bobby Labonte for next season. Labonte, the 2000 NASCAR Cup champion, deserved a break and a solid ride after struggling for the past several years. It was sad and a bit unfair for Labonte to be riding at the back of the pack with TRG Motorsports, an underfunded team that was forced to start and park in some races.

Rick Hendrick was sporting the beginnings of a beard at the Brickyard 400 on Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Hendrick is typically fairly clean shaven. What gives?

This week’s StockCartoon by Mike Smith focuses one of the biggest dilemmas NASCAR faces today. NASCAR officials can make changes to its Chase For The Sprint Cup, improve the new car, spice up the action on the track with double-file restarts and green-white-checkered finishes and anything else it can come up with, but none of it will do as much good as the one thing NASCAR needs more than anything else.
