Kopp Wins A Close AMA Pro K&N Filters Grand National Championship Event at Hagerstown Speedway ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (August 8, 2010) - Last seen in California, seven days and 2800 miles later the AMA Pro K&N Filters Grand National Championship presented by Motorcycle-Superstore.com picked up once again at the Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Series points leader Joe Kopp was determined to have a better night this week after a brutal get off on the west coast. "It's not like I was broke in half or anything, but I'm still pretty sore," said Kopp. "This was a great race. It was a lot of fun dueling with Kenny (Coolbeth), we went back and forth for a long time."

It was a lot more fun for the Latus Harley-Davidson / ENI USA backed Kopp as he pulled to nearly a one-second lead over the Harley-Davidson Motor Company's Kenny Coolbeth. The two former Grand National Champions and former teammates kept the large crowd entertained after a couple of aborted starts.

The first attempt to get the 25-lap National under way only lasted to the first turn, where Zanotti Racing's Jake Johnson crashed right in front of the pack. Scott Powersports' Johnny Lewis and Dave Burks Motorsport's Mick Kirkness were collected in the mess. All three riders would make the restart, however Johnson was on his backup Harley-Davidson.

The next try lasted two laps before last week's winner and this week's fast qualifier Stevie Bonsey fell in turn three. Bonsey was uninjured, but unable to make the restart.

Thus far Coolbeth had gotten the hole shot every time and the third time was no different. Kopp was close behind and looking for any kind of space to make a move. Snedeker Racing's Rob Pearson was having a great ride in third until the 10th lap, when defending Twins Champion Jared Mees pushed his Rogers Lake Racing / Blue Springs Harley-Davidson onto the podium.

Coolbeth and Kopp "officially" exchanged the lead at the line three times, but there was passing going on all around the track. Kopp finally took over for good on lap 20.

Pearson's fourth place came into jeopardy late in the race as Kings Kustoms' Sammy Halbert and the Kawasaki Monster Energy / Werner-Springsteen Kawasaki of Bryan Smith closed to within a half second, but that would be the finish order.

Johnson regrouped to finish a strong seventh over KK Motorcycle Supply's Henry Wiles, Kirkness and Lancaster Harley-Davidson's Brandon Robinson.

Earlier in the night, the all-important Dash for Cash ($1,000 and five points) had gone to Jared Mees in a wire-to-wire win. Kopp was second and Johnson third.

In the Motorcycle-Superstore.com Pro Singles Grand National Championship, points leader Jeffery Carver solidified his lead with a come-from-behind win on his Van's Yamaha / Woody Kyle Racing backed Yamaha.

Early leader James Rispoli would have to settle for second on his Cycle Dynamics / ANT-Racing backed Honda.

Defending Series Champion, Brad Baker was a distant third on his Rod Lake / Mike Velasco backed Honda, barely holding off his traveling buddy Mike Avila (Mack Daddy Racing / RHC Products). Carver now holds a 31 point lead over Baker.

The Survivor: Bloomquist Fights Through All Obstacles To Win Record-Tying Fifth USA Nationals 100 At Cedar Lake Speedway

NEW RICHMOND, WI - Aug. 7, 2010 - Scott Bloomquist fought through all obstacles to win a record-tying fifth USA Nationals trophy on Saturday night at Cedar Lake Speedway.

Nothing could stop the superstar driver from Mooresburg, Tenn., from pocketing the $50,000 top prize in the 23rd annual event presented by the U.S. Steel Corporation. He came back from an early spin, a late-race pit stop and a penalty for moving during a red flag to outduel fellow dirt Late Model legend Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., for the lead on lap 96 of the 100-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main.

Bloomquist, 46, proved to be a survivor, reaching the checkered flag first in a rough-and-tumble race that saw just five cars finish on the lead lap and eight cars still running at the end. The century grind was slowed by 13 caution flags and one red flag and lasted one hour, 18 minutes.

“The track was real demanding,” Bloomquist said of the heavy, high-speed surface conditions that prevailed on the three-eighths-mile oval. “We definitely showed you have to have a strong, tough race car to make it through this thing – and we build some good cars.”

Driving his familiar Team Zero by Bloomquist No. 0, the 2004 WoO LMS champion joined Moyer as a five-time winner of the USA Nationals. He came from the 19th starting spot to score his first win of 2010 and his 19th since 2004 on the WoO LMS.

Moyer, 52, settled for a runner-up placing worth $20,000 in his Victory Circle machine after leading laps 60-95, crossing the finish line 1.377 seconds behind Bloomquist. He started last in the 26-car field after gaining entry to the USA Nationals thanks to a provisional spot for being the highest-finishing driver in Thursday night’s 40-lap DIRTcar UMP A-Main who didn’t qualify.

Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa., finished third in his Rocket car after using a WoO LMS provisional to start 25th. He quietly advanced with help from the race’s heavy attrition, climbing high enough to earn a season-high paycheck of $10,000.

Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., who started 16th, finished fourth in the Barry Wright house car and 20th-starter Will Vaught of Crane, Mo., placed fifth in a Warrior machine. Both young racers persevered through several pit stops to end the event as the final drivers on the lead lap.

Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., finished one lap down in sixth. He lost a circuit after pitting to replace the broken right-rear wheel that flew off his car as he ran fourth on lap 59.

The only other drivers still in action at the finish were Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa, who finished seventh despite losing five laps when he pitted on lap 82 while holding third place, and Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., who returned to the track 10 laps down after running into early problems and salvaged an eighth-place finish.

Bloomquist experienced trouble of his own just five laps into the USA Nationals when contact back in the pack sent him spinning into the infield off turn four to bring out the marathon race’s first caution flag. He recovered nicely to reach third place by the 100’s three-quarter mark, but then an overheating engine prompted him to pit during a lap-75 caution period and he returned to the track just in time to avoid being lapped.

With so many competitors already retired from action, however, Bloomquist sat in eighth place when a caution flag flew on lap 78. He hustled forward to put himself in a battle for second with Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., when a red flag was necessary on lap 89 for Babb, who overran the thick cushion in turn two and barrel-rolled twice but escaped injury in the wild wreck.

Bloomquist was set to restart second behind Moyer, but WoO LMS officials penalized him for moving illegally under red-flag conditions. He was put back to the tail end of the lead-lap cars – fifth place – for the restart.

The penalty barely hampered Bloomquist, who immediately slid back to second when the green flag flew. He then spent several laps in a thrilling, side-by-side race for the lead with Moyer before surging ahead as lap 96 was scored to end the clash of dirt Late Model titans.

“Billy did a good job,” said Bloomquist, “but we just had a little bit better combination or the bottom.”

Moyer, who won a WoO LMS A-Main on Wednesday night at Shawano (Wis.) Speedway, graciously accepted the late-race loss to his longtime rival.

“At the beginning of the race I would’ve never thought it would happen that way,” said Moyer, who was shooting for his first USA Nationals victory since 1993. “At the end we just weren’t quite good enough. We almost done it I guess.”

The 48-year-old Frank, meanwhile, couldn’t keep pace with the leaders over the final 11 circuits, but a third-place finish was much more than he could have envisioned after nearly missing the starting field. He had to rely on a provisional after a bad battery ground wire prevented him from using his pole starting spot in the Last Chance Race.

“We got lucky tonight,” said Frank, who pitted during a lap-19 caution period to raise the ride height of his car. “Sometimes you just gotta use your head. I wish the car would’ve been a little bit better, but it was too tight so I just tried to stay out of trouble and finish the race.”

Many other drivers weren’t as fortunate as Frank. Among the contenders who fell by the wayside early were:

* Don O’Neal of Martinsville, Ind., who steered Larry Moring’s car into the lead on lap two and stayed there until mechanical woes forced him to retire from the race during a lap-19 caution period.

* Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., who started from the pole position and led lap one and laps 20-31. He was plagued by an overheating engine, however, and on lap 75 his powerplant seized up, forcing him to stop on the homestretch while running third.

* Defending USA Nationals champion Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., who roared from the eighth starting spot to the lead by lap 32 but couldn’t stay there. He suddenly headed pitside with mechanical trouble during a lap-59 caution period.

* Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., who won Thursday night’s DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned feature. He started fifth and got up to second on a lap-23 restart before slipping back to fourth, where he was running when a flat right-rear tire caused him to pit during a lap-44 caution period. He was back up to fourth when an overheating powerplant forced him to the infield on lap 71.

* Defending WoO LMS champion Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., who suffered a rare DNF when an engine problem caused him to slow while running second on lap 18.

* Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, Ga., who climbed as high as second from the seventh starting spot before an overheating motor forced him out on lap 44.

* Rookie Austin Hubbard of Seaford, Del., who was running second on lap 60 in his first-ever start at Cedar Lake when his Beitler Motorsports car tossed a right-rear wheel and slammed into the wall between turns three and four.

The USA Nationals served as the fourth leg of the LaCrosse Extreme Tough Challenge, a unique mini-series that awards points to the top-five fulltime WoO LMS and Sprint Car Series drivers in 16 selected events – eight Late Model and eight Sprint Car – and will earn the champion of the combined standings a $5,000 bonus from a $15,000 points fund. Frank earned five points for being the highest-finishing WoO LMS regular in the 100-lapper, with Francis (four), Lanigan (three), McCreadie (two) and Hubbard (one) also picking up points.

Saturday’s action kicked off with a pair of 15-lap B-Mains won by Matt Miller of Waterville, Ohio, and Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, Iowa.

WoO LMS regular Tim Fuller of Watertown, N.Y., captured the 12-lap Last Chance Race, which also sent runner-up Matt Lux of Franklin, Pa., to the USA Nationals.

The WoO LMS will be idle until kicking off a five-race swing through the Northeast on Aug. 18 at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa. The tour also has dates on Aug. 19 at Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge, N.Y.; Aug. 20-21 at Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, N.Y. (the $20,000-to-win ‘Battle at Eastern Door’); Aug. 23 at Autodrome Drummond in Drummondville, Que.; and Aug. 24 at Brewerton (N.Y.) Speedway.

An Amazing Race: Jason Meyers Wins Ironman 55 & $20,000 in Thrilling Fashion over Lucas Wolfe

Pevely, MO-August 7, 2010- 55 laps at I-55 Raceway and the Second Annual Ironman 55 came down to the final one and just a couple of feet on the race track as Jason Meyers won a thriller over Lucas Wolfe on the final circuit. Wolfe used a huge slide job coming off turn four to take the lead on the 55th and final lap, with Meyers winning a drag race down the front straightaway by a mere 0.092 seconds, which was the closest finish of the season.

The $20,000 win for Meyers was his eighth of the season and his second career triumph at I-55 Raceway, where he has finished in the Top-10 in each of his last seven starts at the high-banked 1/3-mile co-owned by Ken Schrader and Ray Marlar. The win helped Meyers close to within 46 markers of current point leader Joey Saldana, who finished fifth, while he is just 37 points behind Steve Kinser, who finished sixth on Saturday night and is currently second in the standings.

"To win any race here, let alone a 55-lap race is pretty special," said Meyers. "We had a great race car tonight and learned some things last night that we were able to use tonight. We just keep getting better day after day. We struggled a bit here in the middle of the season and kept digging and kept our heads down. This entire team is doing an amazing job."

Meyers took the lead from Tim Shaffer on the 29th lap on the low side of turns one and two and quickly opened a gap once out front. The native of Clovis, California was credited with leading a total of 26 laps en route to the victory. He started on the outside of the front row aboard the GLR Investments KPC and chased Tim Shaffer who started on the pole in the early going, before Sam Hafertepe Jr. took the second spot on the seventh lap. Meyers would move back into the runner-up spot 10 laps later and then worked on Shaffer for the next 13 laps.

"It was a long race and we were a little tight at the beginning, but we set up for that," explained the winner. "I waited for the car to kind of come to me and it did after the fuel came off a little bit. It ended up being a very good car tonight."

Wolfe closed the gap on Meyers over the last three laps on Saturday night and with two to go, was all over his back bumper. Coming to the checkered flag Wolfe used a monstrous slide job in turns three and four to take the top spot and charge down the front straightaway with Meyers right behind him. Meyers went low at the start finish/line to inch out the native of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

"I was thinking I made the wrong decision when he came by me, but I was able to get back by him," shared Meyers of the last lap last corner action. "He drove a great race and is a very good driver and has many good years ahead of him. It's great to race guys like that."

Wolfe, who lined up third, fell back to fifth on the seventh lap. He worked his way around Joey Saldana on lap-16 to move into fourth, before taking third from Sam Hafertepe Jr. on the 24th go-around. He gained significant ground on Meyers in the late going, giving him a chance at scoring his fist career World of Outlaws A-Feature win.

"I was close there and got a good opportunity at the end to slide him and was pretty good the whole time," Wolfe said. "At least I got a shot at him. I was following him and kind of biding my time waiting to get a shot and it all came together good there at the end. I just wasn't quite able to hold him off

Wolfe had a steady night aboard the Allebach Racing Maxim, opening the finale of the Ironman 55 by turning the ninth fastest lap in qualifying, finishing second in a heat race and third in the dash to earn the inside second row starting spot in the 55-lap main event. Following the stock car main event, the track crew at I-55 Raceway did a complete rebuild of the high-banked bullring, providing a very racy surface for the main event.

"It was a great track tonight and I'm glad they worked on it," said Wolfe. "I wish we raced here more. It was a lot of fun and hopefully we come here a few times next year."

Tim Shaffer, who opened the Ironman Weekend with a win on Friday night, started on the pole in the finale and led early en route to a third-place finish in the Kistler Engines J&J. He and Sam Hafertepe Jr. traded the top spot unofficially six times over a three lap period from lap 10-12, with Hafertepe officially being credited with the top spot at the line each time, as he used slide jobs in turns three and four to retake the top spot each time after Shaffer used slide jobs in turns one and two to move back out front.

"It was a great race," stated Shaffer. "We were just a little too tight and those guys were a lot freer. I thought the track would get slicker. We're happy with third. It was 55 laps and we survived. It was a very good weekend for us."

Kraig Kinser finished fourth in the Quaker State Maxim to earn his fifth fourth-place finish of the season as he continues to close in on his first win of the 2010 campaign.

Joey Saldana came home fifth in the Budweiser Maxim, one spot ahead of Steve Kinser in the Bass Pro Shops Maxim, to gain a couple of points on the 20-time series champion the series standings. Saldana currently has a nine-point lead over Kinser as he chases his first title.

Donny Schatz came home seventh in the Armor All/STP J&J on Saturday night, with Paul McMahan eighth in the Great Clips Maxim. Kerry Madsen was ninth in the Hall Haulage KPC, with Jason Sides rounding out the Top-10 in the Wetherington Tractor Service Maxim.

The World of Outlaws return to action on Friday, August 20 and Saturday, August 21 with the Magic City Showdown at Nodak Speedway in Minot, North Dakota, to kick off the 2010 Gold Rush Tour.

Joey Coulter Wins First ARCA Race in Berlin ARCA 200

(MARNE, Mich.) - Joey Coulter had experienced it enough. This Saturday night short track show would not end with his car in second place.

Coulter won the Berlin ARCA 200 at Berlin Raceway Saturday night, beating Patrick Sheltra by 0.768 second in the 200-lap race on the 0.4375-mile oval. The win is Coulter's first in ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards competition.

Coulter became the 11th different winner in the 2010 season, and the 10th first-time winner this year.

"It's unbelievable," Coulter said. "We've worked so hard, and we've been so close so many times, and to have it pay off, we had such an amazing car. (Crew chief) Harold (Holly) did such an awesome job setting it up, the guys did an amazing job working on it in the pits, the pit stops were awesome, and nothing happened. It seems like every time we get close, something happens, but nothing happened tonight.

It's awesome. Everybody did great."

Coulter's No. 16 Darrell Gwynn Foundation/Rip It Energy Fuel Chevrolet started the night in the fourth position, but didn't stay there long. Menards Pole Award winner Brian Campbell was swallowed up by the top three drivers on the outside line - Dakoda Armstrong, who started second; Coulter; and Frank Kimmel, the sixth starter. Coulter remained in second place for the first 11 laps until eventually being passed by Kimmel on the backstretch on Lap 12.

With Kimmel on a clear charge to the front, where he would take the lead on Lap 17, Coulter only seemed to slip backward, allowing both Campbell and Tom Hessert  to pass him on Lap 15. With the caution flag yet to fly and Kimmel coasting well in front of the field, Coulter slipped to eighth by Lap 35 and 10th by Lap 50.

The race's first caution came at Lap 54, when Levi Youster's No. 23 Ford spun exiting Turn 1.

Sheltra, who had started 16th and moved to fourth by Lap 50, began to make his move on the ensuing green flag. Kimmel came out of the restart first, followed by Campbell, Hessert, and then the driver of the No. 60 Boatwerks Restaurant/Speed Media Dodge.

Hessert encountered trouble, however, and fell to seventh place; the initial fall allowed Sheltra to move to third.

Campbell, a Wyoming, Mich. resident racing in front of his hometown crowd, was within two car lengths of Kimmel, who had formerly held leads much larger. Campbell even threatened to pass on Lap 70, but his attempt was thwarted by the nine-time series champion.

The lapped cars of Robb Brent and Nick Igdalsky threatened Sheltra's charge to the front, but he cleared both by Lap 78 to have only Kimmel and Campbell between him and the lead. More substantial lapped traffic stood in the leaders' way on Lap 88 and again on Laps 96 and 97, allowing Sheltra to move ever closer to second place with Campbell struggling.

Kimmel led at Lap 100 to take the Messina Halfway Leader Award, but his advantage would not hold for long. Sheltra moved around Campbell for second place on Lap 103, and found his way to Kimmel's inside on Lap 107 before passing for the lead one lap later.

Meanwhile, Coulter was rebounding. After pitting during the first caution period  over 50 laps earlier, Coulter had moved up to fourth place just past the race's  halfway point.

Campbell had passed Kimmel for second and continued to threaten Sheltra for the lead, gaining runs in the backstretch and into Turns 3 and 4 in the southern end  of the track. Sheltra was too strong exiting the turns, and fended Campbell away every time - until Lap 133.

With a great roar from the hometown crowd, Campbell moved to the front with just

67 laps remaining and held a lead of more than one second just four laps later.

However, Coulter had moved to second and was prepared to pounce. After second-place finishes on the short track at Toledo in May, on the superspeedway at Michigan in June, and on two other occasions in his career, the Miami Springs, Fla. driver was not about to settle for next-best - especially when considering that he was the highest-returning finisher from the series' 2009 race at Berlin Raceway.

His growing speed, shrinking margin, and a slight bit of misfortune gave him a chance.

Incoming points leader Justin Marks and Michael Simko - Campbell's teammate - had been battling for position on the tail end of the lead lap when Campbell approached them to put both cars a lap down. Marks and Simko made contact just in front of Campbell entering Turn 2 on Lap 146, and Campbell had nowhere to go. His own ride into the fringe of the infield allowed Coulter to pass, and the lead was Coulter's for all but one lap the rest of the way, when he went to pit road for a second time just several laps later and allowed Hessert to take the advantage.

Hessert then pitted, and Coulter assumed the lead again on Lap 150 during what became the race's longest of four cautions. Behind Coulter were Mikey Kile, Sheltra, and Steve Arpin, making his return start in the ARCA Racing Series after missing the  events at Mansfield Motorsports Park and Pocono Raceway for a commitment to the  NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Kimmel, who had been in the top five, fell to eighth after a slow pit stop. Marks, meanwhile, was suffering transmission issues, and came in to his pit for lengthy  repairs. He would finish 21st.

The race went green again on Lap 159, with Coulter immediately receiving pressure from the lapped car of Max Gresham. Coulter turned the Mansfield winner away and  started to drive from the pack as Arpin and Sheltra waged an intense battle, beating and banging for the third position behind Kile. Both would pass Kile by Lap 165,  rendering Kile to fourth.

Campbell yielded the race's third caution when he, still on the lead lap but far  from the front of the field, bumped Kimmel, who then collected Chad McCumbee, on Lap 168. Not even the following restart would allow the field to catch Coulter, who had to get away yet another time after Tim George Jr. brought out the race's  final caution by contacting the wall on Lap 175.

The race became a two-car battle in the waning laps, with Arpin falling off the pace and Sheltra appearing as Coulter's lone rival. The margin rose above and fell below one second numerous times in the final laps, but Sheltra could come no closer than a half-second, giving Coulter his elusive first win.

Sheltra was second, followed by Arpin and Hessert. Kimmel rebounded in the final  10 laps to finish fifth.

Armstrong finished sixth, Kile seventh, and Simko eighth. Craig Goess became the  new series points leader with a ninth-place finish, and McCumbee filled out the  top ten.

Campbell, who entered with much promise as a hometown favorite, finished 23rd.

Though in ninth place in the series standings, Coulter maintained that his victory is enough to give him confidence with eight races remaining in 2010.

"It's one of those things where I can walk into a track now and say, 'I've done it.' We've been so close and now we've done it, and everybody told me that after  you get your first win, your second one comes easier," Coulter said.

Goess leads the ARCA Racing Series standings by 25 points over Kimmel, and Marks  is third, 45 points from the lead. Sheltra advanced back to fourth, trading spots with Hessert. Armstrong, Kile, and George maintained their positions in the top eight, and Coulter used his win to bump Robb Brent into 10th place.

The race finished in one hour, 17 minutes, and 37 seconds, at an average speed of 77.297 mph, a new race record.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards visits New Jersey Motorsports Park on Sunday, August 15. Third Generation Teenager A.J. Flick wins again!

McKisson, Swartzlander and Satterlee also repeat winners Lynch, Hess, Bolland and Kelley maintain Bud Points leads

Sarver, PA (August 6, 2010) The final month of the 2010 Lernerville Speedway Fab Four Racing season began tonight on a beautiful summer evening!  The Diehl Auto Group DIRTcar Modifieds kicked off the evening with Brian Swartzlander winning his fourth feature of 2010.  Other repeat winners include Andy McKisson scoring his second Ti22 Performance DIRTcar Sprint Feature, Gregg Satterlee winning his third DIRTcar Late Model feature and Third-Generation Rising Star A.J. Flick with his second feature win in three weeks in the ultra-competitive Charapp Route 28 DIRTcar Sportsman Feature.

Incumbent Budweiser Points Leader Kevin Bolland led the Diehl Auto Group DIRTcar Modified Feature to the green flag and jumped out to a quick lead.  Behind him, Defending Track Champion Jeremiah Shingledecker and Brian Swartzlander began their pursuit of the lead.  Bolland and Shingledecker made contact on the front straightaway of the lap 10 restart, resulting in the backsliding of Shingledecker to fourth.  Swartzlander was now in second and loaded for bear!  On the lap 13 restart, Swartzlander temporarily took the lead from Bolland along the bottom of turns one & two, but Bolland pulled even down the backstretch and pounded the top cushion to officially maintain his lead at the flagstand.  By lap 15, Swartzlander had pulled even again at the flagstand and passed Bolland for the final time in turns one & two on lap 16.  Once out front, Swartzlander motored to his 68th Modified Feature win, just one behind All Time Wins Leader and Hall of Famer Lou Blaney.

Second place finisher Kevin Bolland extended his points lead over third place finisher Jeremiah Shingledecker.  Del Rouguex crossed the stripe fourth.  As the laps wound down, the best race on the track was for fifth place between Dave Murdick and Tom Winkle.  When they crossed under the checkered flag, it was Murdick in fifth, followed by Winkle in sixth.  The rest of the Diehl Top Ten rounded out with Dean Pearson, Carl Murdick, Mike Turner and Steve Feder.  Swartzlander and Bolland spilt the National Guard Heat Races.

After the Diehl Mods Feature, Former Lernerville Speedway Trophy Girl Mandy Golec was honored with a bouquet of flowers and her very own trophy as she heads west to Colorado.  Mandy brought the trophy girl position back to life at Lernerville Speedway and graced Sheetz Victory Lane for two & half years.  A true race fan, not just a pretty face, Mandy was also a great ambassador for Lernerville Speedway as she followed her beloved Late Models throughout Western and Central PA, and as far west as Eldora Speedway for “The Dream” and as far south as the Dirt Track at Charlotte for the “World Finals.”  She has already scoped out a DIRTcar Late Model track in Colorado, but will be missed by track officials, media members, drivers and fans alike!  Thanks for all the memories Mandy!!

The Ti22 Performance DIRTcar Sprint Cars took the green flag with Andy McKisson and Brian Steinman on the front row.  McKisson took the lead around the top of turns one & two and checked out on the field, stretching his lead out to a full straightaway by lap seven.  Both Rod George and Brian Ellenberger tested McKisson on a handful of restarts and in lapped traffic, but neither driver ever presented an imminent threat to McKisson as he led all 25 laps and scored his second career Ti22 Sprint feature.

Behind McKisson the racing was a battle in its own, slide jobs and power moves around the top seemed to be the two moves of choice as the “usual suspects” made their way to the front.  After the dust settled Brian Ellenberger finished second after starting 12th.  Third place went to Defending Track Champion Rod George who seemed poised to challenge Ellenberger mid-race, but appeared to lose his tires after a lap 12 caution.  Ed Lynch Jr. came from 14th on the starting grid to finish fourth and extend his Budweiser Points leads over Danny Holtgraver.  Lynch, of course, will be headed west next weekend to battle the best of the best at the 50th Annual Knoxville Nationals.  Holtgraver started 13th and charged to a sixth place finish after another wheel-to-wheel battle with Carl Bowser, whom finished fifth.  The Ti22 Top Ten rounded out with Dan Kuriger, Brent Matus, Bob Felmlee and Kevin Schaeffer.  Felmlee got tangled up in an early accident in turns three & four after he could not miss an airborn Jack Sodeman Jr. who could not miss a spinning Eric Williams.  All three drivers continued after starting at the tail, but Sodeman rolled to a stop around the top of turns one & two and was scored in 20th.  National Guard Heat Race winners were Carl Bowser, Jack Sodeman Jr. and Andy McKisson.

After being stuck in the back of the heat race freight train, “The Truth” Gregg Satterlee flanked Kenny Schaltenbrand on the front row as another stacked field of DIRTcar Late Models took the green flag.  Schaltenbrand led the field to turn one, but Satterlee rocketed around the top of turns one & two and to the lead down the back straightaway.  As his competitors jockeyed for position behind him, Satterlee cruised to a dominant victory, his third of the 2010 season in limited competition.

As was the case in the Ti22 Sprints behind Andy McKisson, the racing behind Satterlee was fast & furious!  Lynn Geisler, (whom missed last week’s Fab Four Racing program after engine issues while loading their car at the shop), had his best race of the year as his longtime sponsor Groff Tractor & Equipment was on hand.  Geisler finished second ahead of Dave Murdick in the Pitkavish Late Model.  The best racing in the track during the 25-lap DIRTcar Late Model feature was for fourth place as Defending Track Champion Alex Ferree battled Kenny Schaltenbrand and Jared Miley.  Schaltenbrand beat them to the checkered flag, followed by Miley in fifth and Ferree in sixth.  Doug Eck, Chuck Sarver, John Garvin Jr. and Garrett Krummert rounded out the top ten.  Eck and Krummert won National Guard Heat Races.

Budweiser Points Leader Dave Hess Jr. suffered his third DNF in four races after being collected in an early spin by Mike Johnson in turns three & four.  Despite his recent misfortune, Hess still enjoys a comfortable lead of more than a full night’s worth of points.

With back-to-back front row winners before him, Charapp Route 28 DIRTcar Sportsman veteran Wayne Carbo was licking his chops as the green flag dropped.  He paced the field for the first eight laps of the 20-lap feature and scored a solid top five finish.  But the story of the Charapp 28 Sportsman feature again was the quick rise to stardom of third generation, teenage driver A.J. Flick.  Coming from ninth on the starting grid, Flick stuck like glue to the bottom of the Action Track and had horsepower to burn.  He once again held off the advances of seven-time feature winner and Budweiser Points Leaders Joe Kelley to score his second feature win of the season.  Last week, Flick was a fraction of a second away from winning; after scoring his first career win a week earlier.

As Flick cruised away to Sheetz Victory Lane, Jason Fosnaught blasted off the top of turn four to pass Joe Kelley at the flagstand with one to go, and held on for a strong second place finish after starting seventh.  Kelley maintains a healthy lead in the points after a third place finish.  Wayne Carbo finished fourth ahead of Mike Miller in fifth.  The rest of the Charapp Top Ten went to Bob Lipinski, Chris Schneider (in the McDonald #25), Rob Shook (in the Schreckengost #3S), Ryan Moyer and Scott Bowman.  Carbo and Flick were National Guard Heat Race victors.  A.J. Flick picked up an extra $25 from the National Guard Challenge and his feature win netted a lucky fan a pair of National Guard boots!

The chase for the Budweiser Track Championships resume next Friday for another round of Fab Four Racing.  In addition to the complete Fab Four Racing program, the DIRTcar Late Models will be running for a $3,000 payday and will receive 20 “show up” points.  There will be on increase in admission prices.

Tim Shaffer Slices to Win Opener of the Ironman 55 at I-55 Raceway

Pevely, MO-August 6, 2010- Tim Shaffer has been the hottest driver in all of racing over the last week. Heading into the opener of the Ironman 55 weekend on Friday night at I-55 Raceway, the veteran had won in four straight starts over a six-day span. He extended that streak to five consecutive wins in seven days, as he was victorious in the opener of the two-day event at the high-banked 1/3-mile bullring.

Shaffer started on the front row of the 30-lapper and chased Jason Sides, who started on the pole, in the early going. For Shaffer, it was his first World of Outlaws win of the season and the 13th of his career.

"It was a team effort on everyone's part," said Shaffer. "We have a lot of people with this team that can't come to the races all the time and I want to thank every one of them. Aaron Call and Janet Holbrook gave us a great opportunity and a great team and we are trying to make the best we can and it's working out. It makes it special that we can win races for them and it's just fun."

Shaffer used lapped traffic to his advantage on the seventh lap, powering his way to the outside of Sides coming off the high side of turn two aboard the Kistler Engines J&J. Once out front, Shaffer set sail, slicing his way through lapped traffic to open a sizeable lead on the Jason Sides. He had Sides and Craig Dollansky gain some ground on him in the late going, with Dollansky finishing just a half-a-second behind and Sides only eighth-tenths-of-a-second back in third.

"I was too tight early and couldn't do anything with him," Shaffer explained. "I did have to wait, not that I wanted to, but the car was making me and it worked out to our advantage. Sometimes in lapped traffic running second is better, then I got the lead and had to worry about it, but it worked out for me and just made the right decisions and here we are."

The only caution of the main event flew on the 18th lap, with Shaffer choosing the high side of the track on the double file restart with Sides lining up below him. Shaffer used a very strong restart to quickly jump out to a sizeable lead and would lead the remainder of the 30-lap contest which was co-sanctioned by the World of Outlaws and All Star Circuit of Champions.

"I wasn't sure what to do really," he admitted. "I was digging pretty hard and the car was hooked up and I thought if I could get some momentum going down the hill. It just worked out."

Craig Dollansky battled Jason Sides down the stretch for the second spot to extend his string of races in which he has finished first or second at I-55 Raceway to five. He started sixth and was up to fourth in just one lap, getting around Jason Meyers and Kraig Kinser. He then worked on Donny Schatz until just past the halfway point of the race for third, taking the spot on the 17th circuit, before getting around Jason Sides for second with eight laps to go.

"Last year we won this race and finished second the second night so hopefully tomorrow night we can reverse them," said Dollansky. "We had a good car tonight. We had a good car in the dash and got to racing with Kerry (Madsen) and Jason (Sides) and I wasn't ready for Kerry to come left like he did and I tried to woe up as quick as I could. We got the car sideways trying to avoid him and we got together a little bit and that put us into a hole as well him. It's unfortunate, but we gained a few spots there back in the dash and got ourselves into the sixth starting spot. From sixth to second is not bad with the guys that were starting on the front row."

Jason Sides, who started on the pole and led the first six laps, ended up third in the Wetherington Tractor Service Maxim to earn his 18th Top-Five finish of the season and second consecutive podium.

"You hate to give up a win when you start on the front row," Sides said. "To give it up to anyone though, Tim (Shaffer) would be the guy. He is a buddy of mine and he needs it as bad as I do. All in all we had a good night. We went out late and qualified descent. We were up front in the heat and got into the dash and everything kept rolling."

Steve Kinser finished fourth in the Bass Pro Shops Maxim to pick up his series leading 31st Top-Five finish of the season. He began the night by turning the second fastest lap in time trials to earn four bonus points in the series standings. He now trails Joey Saldana by a mere five markers as he chases his record 21st title.

Donny Schatz finished fifth in the Armor All/STP J&J to earn his 24th Top-Five finish of the season. The four-time and defending series champion remains fourth in points.

Jason Meyers finished sixth aboard the GLR Investments KPC. He opened the night by setting fast time to earn five bonus and remains third in points, just 54 markers out of the top spot as he chases his first title.

Joey Saldana, the current World of Outlaws point leader, came all the way from the 19th starting spot to finish seventh in the Budweiser Maxim to retain the point lead as he too seeks his first title and earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award in the process.

Lance Dewease finished eighth in the Advanced Development Services J&J, with Paul McMahan ninth in the Great Clips Maxim. Danny Lasoski rounded out the Top-10 in the Casey's General Stores JEI.

Dollansky was able to close in on Shaffer late in the race as the pair negotiated some lapped traffic during the final 13-lap green flag run of the night.

"We definitely learned some things here tonight and I was hoping to stay in lapped traffic there longer," stated the native of Elk River, Minnesota. "It seemed like a short race and I was surprised it was over as quick as it was. We'll work on things for tomorrow and hopefully come back strong tomorrow night."

Sides was also able to gain ground in lapped traffic on Shaffer en route to his fourth consecutive Top-Five finish at I-55 Raceway as he looks for his first win at the high-banked bullring.

"We needed it to go a little bit longer in lapped traffic," said Sides as well. "It was just starting to work in our favor. I think we had something for them and hopefully we learned something for tomorrow night. It's 55 laps tomorrow so we'll have a lot better chance."

The World of Outlaws wrap up the Ironman 55 weekend on Saturday, August 7 with $20,000 awaiting the winner of the 55-lapper.
