BATESBURG, SC -
August 2, 2003 - Chris Usry of Appling, GA took the lead on lap 28 in the
Carolina Clash Super Late Model feature on this
Saturday night in
another 50-lap showdown that would pay $3,500 to win at I-20 Speedway.
When
Usry got the lead he never let up as he was able to keep five I-20 Speedway
regulars behind him for the final 22 laps around the clay oval before
another great crowd of race fans in Batesburg. Usry ran a steady line
holding off a hard charging Smoak lap after lap as they were looking for
the Checkers on this night.
Usry took the win
his first in the Clash action this season.
Usry after a post
race inspection jumped on his hood and waved at the fans and enjoyed one of
his biggest wins in recent years $3,500. Usry comments on the victory “I’m very
happy to finally get a Clash win, but Arp had the fastest car tonight no
doubt, but you have to have a little luck and we’ve had a up and down year
this win was good for my entire race team thanks to our sponsors Edwards
Signs, Shealy’s Barbecue and Stone’s Service Center and my Walter Newman
machine powered by an HRS Engine was very strong most of the event’.
