Steve Wyatt To Contribute to SCMSRN.com

I like drag racing, dirt track racing, legend car racing and go-cart racing, but my favorite is NASCAR!  I'm 34 and have lived in Newberry over 14 years now. I've lived all over the USA. I was born in Baltimore, Md. back in 1970.  I am very happily married to my wife, Karen. We've been married over 13 years now. I work for International Paper, (over 14 years now), and have a huge interest in development on all levels. I report latest development information to high-rise websites. My areas I cover are primarily: Baltimore, Md., all of South Carolina and other southern states.

Also, the other picture is my stepson, Cory Mack, 24 years old. He is posing with his 400 hp Mustang GT. He loves drag racing. He does custom painting on cars and trucks and all. His business is called: "On The Side" customs.  Cory just finished painting Chris Tuten's Drag Mustang with an awesome paint job!  Chris's first race of this year is in Florida and will feature Cory's painted Stang.  That race is on March 10th-13th.

SCMSRN.com welcomes Steve to contribute as his schedule allows.  His inputs will greatly enhance the interest in the website and aide in the growth of providing more information about local racing.

Broad River Dragway Under Construction

By Steve Wyatt, March 29, 2005

Deep in the woods of Santuc, South Carolina there is something growing. Something that will bring joy to thousands of people from all over our great state. What would you say if I said there were Christmas Trees growing in there? And under these trees sit two of the most beautiful gifts you ever saw. And the excitement these two gifts would bring would demand everyone's attention. Well, I'm not talking about a couple of cedar trees, and you won't have to wait until Christmas for it either! No, but these trees do have lights and they sure are pretty!

Sometime in late June or early July of this year, 2005, South Carolina will be presented with the greatest gift any true race-fan would want. DRAG-RACING, that is.....

And don't think this is just "another" drag strip either. This place will be very special. Let me tell y'all about it.

Several very gracious gentlemen came together and formed, "Broad River Dragway, Inc." I've had the honor of speaking with two of these gentlemen, Mr. Kevin Cody and Mr. Mark Helms. They told me allot of great things about this new racing facility.

Let me tell y'all some more of what they said. First, this track will be a "fast track". Ya see, most other tracks offer you about 60 feet of concrete to propel you off to a hopefully fast run. Well, this track goes concrete the entire 1/8 mile of the track!! When this track is finished it will be IHRA sanctioned. That's right. You see, most tracks offer a 50 foot width for two competitors to race on. This track gives 10 more feet!! That's right, 60 feet!! Wide! So, if you're a racer, you should be more than happy to get a roomy, fast track to drag on. If your a watcher, (a fan), you'll get a great show no doubt about it!

How many fans you ask? Try, thousands! Grandstand seating on both sides of the track over 100 feet long by 30 feet deep.

Hey, the timing tower is going to be really nice, too. Yes, you can probably count on some pretty big events going on here!

I, for one, can't wait. What a perfect place for a drag strip. Right "smack-dab" in the middle of the Mid-lands and the Up-state. Approximately 30 miles from I-26. It's not hard to find. It's off of HWY 215, between Carlisle and Union.

Thanks to the good folks in Union County, with it's very nice, (that is, drag-race friendly), zoning, we are all in for a grand time. One can expect a nice economic boost for this area, and at least little pride to go along with it. Now South Carolinians will not only have a new drag strip, but perhaps the state's best one to date. Time will tell, but something tells me that this one will be very special in many ways.

I'll up-date everyone on the track's progress on a two to three week basis.

Please stay tuned. Oh, and...., spread the word, Broad River Dragway is coming.
