Clay Alexander Looks to Add Name To World Crown
History Books After All American 400 Cancellation, Tennessee-Native
Sets Sights on World Crown FRANKLIN, TN (November 9, 2009) – Clay Alexander is
looking forward to World Crown 300 weekend.
It’s not only because he wants to add his name to the record books as
a winner of one of the biggest Late Model events in the Southeast, but it’s
also because the youngster won’t feel like he’s fighting from behind all
weekend long when the #84 Alexander Automotive Family/Redline Oil Late Model
rolls into the track. That is because when the gates open for the World Crown
300 this coming weekend, almost all the drivers will be on the same level of
“on-track experience.” In year’s past, the World Crown 300 was run at Peach
State Speedway. But Peach State
Speedway was sold and completely renovated under the new name of Gresham
Motorsports Park. Almost everything
at the track was bulldozed and rebuilt, except for the basic layout of the
old track. However, the track was
repaved and reconfigured, so the old backstretch is the new frontstretch. And the World Crown 300 is the first time
the drivers entered will see and drive on the new track. “Even though we’ve been racing Late Models for a couple
of years now, we don’t have the experience at some of these tracks as a lot
of our competitors,” said Alexander.
“Most of these guys have thousands and thousands of laps on some of
these tracks, where as we normally have raced on them just once or
twice. But at the World Crown,
everyone will be learning the new track at the same time, which should allow
everyone to be on the same level and allow the fastest drivers to be the ones
that can adapt their driving style and their car to the track. “We’ve been really hitting our strides in the last
couple of months and I think that will help a lot at the World Crown. We’ve been super fast at Nashville the
last couple of times we’ve run there and recently had an awesome test at Five
Flags Speedway in Pensacola. So I
think that will give us a lot of confidence going into the World Crown
weekend. We are going to go there and
do what we have been doing and the rest of it will take care of itself.” Prior to this coming weekend, Alexander had only raced
once at the old Peach State Speedway, coming back in 2007 in at Georgia
Asphalt Series race. He scored a
top-10 in his one trip to the track. “I like the high-speed high-banked tracks a lot,” added
Alexander. “I think that is why we
have excelled at places like Nashville and Pensacola and that is why I’m
pretty confident going into the World Crown.
The track hasn’t changed in respect to the banking too much. And I think the new asphalt will just make
it that much quicker. It is the kind
of track that fits my driving style. “Plus, I’m just excited to see all the changes that they
have made to the place. I follow
along on the internet and look at the pictures all of the time and the place
looks amazing. I really like the
yellow walls and the new look to the infield area. At first, I thought it might be weird to know that the
backstretch is now the frontstretch, but when you come by all those
grandstands and the flagstand, I don’t think you will think about it one
bit. I’m really excited for the
weekend.” Action for the World Crown 300 gets underway on Friday
with several practice sessions. More
practice and qualifying for the 300-lap event will take place on Saturday,
with the start of the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park set for 2pm
(local) on Sunday, November 15. For more information on Clay Alexander, visit his website at www.clayalexander.com or contact Jeremy Troiano at 704-726-6849 or jeremy@2dudesdesigns.com. For marketing opportunities with Clay Alexander, contact Meghan Alexander at meghanalexander@bellsouth.net. |
